Becoming A 50's Housewife

My husband Chris and I have been married for almost a year now. Our anniversary is on March 1st. We have a beautiful baby boy who is 5 months old. I have noticed through this year of marriage that I’m not the ideal housewife. I honestly sit most of the day either in front of the TV or on the computer. I don’t make homemade meals and I hardly clean every day. I tidy up but I don’t clean everything that I want to. I have been disappointed in myself that I can’t clean, cook, and take care of the baby. I want to be the ideal 50’s women!

I’ve decided to really try and put an effort into cleaning EVERYTHING. That will be the hardest part for me because I always get distracted with our son. I found an ultimate 50s cleaning list on http://www.jenbutneverjenn.com/2010/05/keeping-of-house-1950s-style.html I will try to do everything on her list. The next thing I want to do is start cooking. No more eating out or buying microwavable food. It’s really not healthy and I do not want my son to pick up my bad habits one day. My mother has some vintage 1950s cook books, so I will barrow hers and use some modern day cook books too. I have never really cooked before either so this will be an adventure for me as well.

The next thing I admire about the 50s housewives is how they always look perfect. I spend most of the day in pajamas or sweatpants.  Just the thought of getting myself dolled up every day makes me excited.  I feel like when I shower, do my makeup, and get dressed in a nice outfit; I will feel more motivated to clean the house every day and make dinner for Chris.

Here I go! Tomorrow February 22nd will be the first day I start my ideal housewife challenge. I will write posts about my experience on learning how to become a housewife and what everyone should know. I am excited to start this new journey tomorrow morning!
